Lee Street School - Traffic Light Issue:

Not a Ward 4 issue, this is Ward 1 issue. Yet I often get asked from people across the city on issues in their wards and I do my best to help them out anyways. I reached out to both councillors Jim Furfaro & Bob Bell about concerns I saw online (Twitter) from residents in the east end about the new Lee Street School opening up and a lack of traffic lights. Specifically about safety for children. They were both appreciative of letting me know, but they also recalled working on this exact issue from months ago. And so, they searched and found this info below for me to share.

Take care,

Subject: Lights at Grange and Kearney

Hello Mr. Furfaro,

I am wondering if the city has plans to install a pedestrian crossing traffic light at the intersection of Grange and Kearney to allow children to cross over to Lee St. Public School safely before it opens in September, 2014?

Thanks for your time,

Good afternoon W,

Traffic staff are not aware of any plans at this time to install traffic signals on Grange Road at Kearney Street. However, we recognize that once Lee Street Public School opens students will require assistance crossing Grange Road and it would be the City’s intention to post a crossing guard at this location. The City will be working with School board staff to finalize details in the new year. Should you have any further questions, please contact me either by email or phone.
