Cam,
Just a question.
Why did the garbage collection today March 26th have 3 trucks following each other to pick up the blue and green bags? Then a fourth to pick up the white? Four trucks instead of two. This can't be saving tax money by having three trucks follow each other when only 1 is needed.
Just wondering why since this is not normal practise.

D.

Staff Response:

Thank you for letting us know about your concerns over having multiple vehicles collecting waste in your area.
As you may know, there are a number of new houses being built in the area just south of your location which is included in the same blue/green  waste collection route as your home.  Any new development under construction can delay our waste collection services because of parked vehicles on the street for the trades to complete work on the houses as well as growth in the route.  A co-worker who was collecting waste in a route in close proximity to the operator  went into the route to help and ensure that services were provided in a timely manner.  In addition there was a vehicle to collect another commodity in the route.
Starting the fall of 2012, the City will be rolling out a cart based automated waste collection system which will further improve waste collection efficiencies by reducing the number of trucks passing by each household each week. One week the operator will collect the green and clear on a split vehicle and the following week the green and the blue will be collected.
If you have any further questions or concerns please let me know.
Sincerely,
